Many people believe that the acronym ‘Bae’ stands for ‘Before Anyone Else’ or ‘Before Anything Else’ and relates to any individual or thing that is most important in someone’s life. The Cambridge English online dictionary defines Bae as someone you love a boyfriend or girlfriend. Though popular media has just recently adopted the trend, however, bae has been around for decades, grounded in Southern African-American communities where it formed naturally as a result of letter-dropping, turning “baby” to “bae.”īAE is an acronym that is typically used to refer to a boyfriend or a girlfriend, a lover, a crush or really anyone considered to be the most important person in another person’s life. Bae usage first began 20 with the meme “bae caught me slipping” which, was associated with people taking selfies of themselves sleeping.īae usage started gaining popularity when Pharrell Williams released the song, “Come Get It Bae” with Miley Cyrus in May of 2014.
